All I have to say is damn, this blows.
Shareholders Approve Pirate Bay Purchase
Not that I ever used this site to download copyrighted material. (wink… wink… nudge… nudge) I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with copyright infringement issues. I understand them but I just don’t see how my or anyone’s flaunting of them ever hurt any company. It’s part of business…things change and then the market place is different. All these companies complaining about loss profits and demanding that governments step in and enforce their laws are the same assholes who bitch long and hard about government interference in their affairs. So I say screw them and screw these morons spending big money on Pirate Bay. They’ll be bankrupt in a year.
Necessity breeds innovation.
Just as Kazaa and LimeWire followed Napster, another site will replace The Pirate Bay. The underground scene (although not so underground anymore) will always be a few steps ahead of bureaucratic nature of updating copyright protection software like DRM and passing new laws.
So as the Pirate Bay’s ship is about to sink, a handful of other are ready to set sail. Couldn’t resist the metaphor.
I do agree with you that Pirate Bay will be bankrupt in a year. I mean the whole reason why it’s called “Pirate Bay” is because it was where music privateers would go to get their free music. It’s kinda like a company calling itself “The Free Shit Store” and then charging for membership.
However I don’t blame companies whining to the government re: enforcement of business practices. It’s similar to the people who complain that the cops are always harassing them but when their belligerent ex boyfriend is trying to force their way into the apartment, who’s the first phone call they make?
To put it another way: what if another nursey opened up across the street from yours which allowed people to both plant and pick their own plants for free without even a business license? Wouldn’t you be calling the cops or town or whatever to get them shut down?
