Late last week, you and my’s favorite agitator, Mr. Michael Moore, posted this letter to President Obama on his website. He asks that our President replaces his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, with him. Emanuel has been getting heat from both the administration and outside sources as doing a poor job. It’s rumored that our Commander-In-Chief is looking for a replacement. Moore has taken the opportunity to throw his hat into the ring.
Of course, we all know that this is Moore’s way to creating controversy and stirring the pot. However, I think, yet again, he raises legitimate concerns and asks important questions. I’ve mentioned it here before that the Democrats and the President need to stop playing nice and just slap the Republicans down. They have a majority, so use it.
Mr. Moore says exactly that in many more words than I which, as a documentary filmmaker, he has a tendency to bang home the exact same point again and again. But his best lines come in this following paragraph.
Then we (Moore and Obama) will put on our jogging sweats and run up to Capitol Hill. We will take names, kick butts, and then take some more names. If we have to give a few noogies or half-nelson’s, then so be it. In our pockets we will have a piece of paper to show the pansy Dems just how much they won by in 2008 — and the poll results that show the majority of Americans oppose the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and want the bankers punished. Like drill sergeants, we will get right up in their faces and ask them, “WHAT PART OF THE PUBLIC MANDATE DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND, SOLDIER?!! DROP AND GIVE ME 50!”
Does that not make you want him to get down to DC and liven up things? He’s exactly right…hit them over the head with everything you’ve got. That was Rahm Emanuel’s job…he’s been the only “bad” guy that the Democrats have had. He understood the right and how they worked and he used their own tactics against them. He played tough and fought in the trenches but now he’s lost his way and just looks like he’s in over his head.
I agree with Michael Moore in that we need a tough guy in DC fighting for us, the Common People. While the Democrats want bipartisanship, the Republicans want burn and pillage. Moore hits a home run with his astute observation on the Republican party.
But the Republicans were not going to go quietly into the night. You see, instead of having just one Rahm Emanuel, they are ALL Rahm Emanuels. That’s why they usually win. Unlike most Democrats, they are relentless and unstoppable. When they believe in something (which is usually themselves and the K Street job they hope to be rewarded with someday), they’ll fight for it till the death. They are loyal to a fault to each other (they were never able to denounce Bush, even though they knew he was destroying the party). They dig their heels in deep no matter what. If you exiled them to a lone chunk of melting polar ice cap, they would keep insisting that it was just a normal “January thaw,” even as the frigid Arctic waters rose above their God-fearing necks (“See what I mean — this water is COLD! What ‘global *warming*’?! Adam and Eve rode dinos…aagghh!!… gulp gulp gulp”).
Whether or not you usually agree with America’s #1 agitator, he is absolutely right to say that we need someone fighting for us in DC. And the fight will be tough, dirty, and difficult but it’s one that we as Americans must battle for and we must WIN!
I dunno…getting behind Michael Moore? Not an easy choice for me, he’s take attention away from the Prez, and that’s probably not a good thing.
Why not? All the attention being on Obama has made things worse for the Democrats…at least in my opinion. They can pretend that they’re doing something when in actuality they don’t have the guts to stand up and tell the Republicans to shove it and win with their majority. If you haven’t read the letter, I think you’ll enjoy it.
I am not Moore’s biggest fan but I do think he sometimes has very valid points…which this letter is one of those.
I agree that the Dems are a pansy ass party right now. We do need someone to take control. Of course the GOP will cry foul and say everything was shoved down their throats!
