Brett Favre is an Asshole

So yet again, here we are about to start football season and again, no surprise, we have the soap opera that is the Brett Favre story.  In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ve never really liked Brett.  He has been a talented QB but not the phenomenal game changing athlete he’s hyped to be.  He is the all-time leader in interceptions thrown folks! Yes he leads in all time TDs and passing yards but one would expect that when you throw all the f’ning time! So with that out of the way, here’s why Brett Favre is an asshole.

We hear all the time about sports being a business and then the same “sports analysts” (what a crock of shit, I’m doing it for free, it can’t be that hard), reverse their stance and talk about tradition, players deserving to retire from certain teams, all the lovey-dovey, hold hands and sing Kumbaya crap that sports casters use to try and mythologize sports and athletes with.  But it’s a business first and foremost and that’s why Favre is an asshole.  Let me explain.

Brett Favre was the starting QB for the Packers for many, many, many years.  The last few seasons that he was with Green Bay, he would mull over retiring and every year we were subjected to the “Brett Favre Watch”.  Finally, the Packers said enough is enough and told Favre, no thank you, we’ve replaced you at quarterback.  During this messy divorce, the Packers made a deal with Favre that precluded him from signing with any of the NFC North teams, the Packers main competitors.  Favre then played for the Jets and stunk out the joint.  Now he hemmed and hawed again about coming out of retirement, said no, and then showed up at the Vikings training camp three weeks in and is now signed to play for them.  People have loudly denounced how the Packers treated Favre and that Favre should be able to do all these things without anyone speaking against him because he’s a “gunslinger”, a “regular joe,” a “down-to-earth sportmans”, a “team player”.  Bullshit, Brett Favre is an asshole.

Let’s look at this as if Favre worked for a Fortune 500 company.  Let’s take Ford.  Let’s pretend that Favre is a high level manager at Ford that has been there for years and helped make the company a pile of money early in his career.  Then suddenly, after every busy period at the plant, he decides to take time off to contemplate whether he wants to retire and won’t give an answer until the day the next production cycle begins.  Then when the company replaces him with another manager that can do his job efficently, for less money, and with none of the bullshit, he calls foul and demands his job back! On top of that, when they refuse as any intelligently run company would, he cries foul again when Ford forces him to sign a non-compete clause that prohibits him from working for their direct competition.  Favre decides to thumb his noise at Ford and goes overseas to work for Yugo and helps drive that company into the ground.  Then after his non-compete clause is over, he returns back to the US and walks onto the production floor at a Chevy plant during a heavy production cycle and demands to be the manager.

Does anyone in their right mind think this would ever fly??? He’d be laughed at by anyone who he complained to about how he was treated.  His fellow employees would complain about him and call him an idiot.  Those things have happened in the companies he’s worked for and his subsequent hiring at Chevy(Vikings) will meet with failure and ridicule.  Brett Favre, you sir, are an asshole.

I’m curious as to why none of the broadcast companies have offered him a commentators spot?

But I agree, this is bullshit with Farve. Around the office, a lot of us think that it’s only because the old man has developed Alzheimer’s and has forgotten that he’s supposed to be retired. Instead he wanders the country side looking for a place to throw a football.

Admittedly though, Brett Farve is one tough son of a bitch. Addiction to vicadin or not. Just saying.

You forgot selfish, he’s a selfish asshole. He’s obviously not putting the team first with his indecision. I hope the Vikings decide to make him the #2 starter or the waterboy.
